Commercial Heat Pumps

Access a net zero heating solution that meets your environmental and financial objectives with flexible, cost-effective Heat Pumps.

As a low-or-zero carbon solution, Heat Pumps can provide heating from 40°C up to 165°C. They don’t emit any direct emissions, significantly reducing or replacing an organisation’s need to burn fossil fuels on-site.

We offer five different types of Heat Pump, alongside financing options, maintenance plans, and integrations with other onsite energy generation technologies.

Do you have a Heat Pumps project in mind?

Are you a large organisation that consumes over 500,000 kWh of electricity and is planning to start a new energy project in the next 12 months?

With over 35 years’ experience in deploying onsite energy infrastructure, we are the right partner to deliver your end-to-end Heat Pump solutions. Tell us about your project by completing our simple form to get the conversation started.

Why choose Centrica Business Solutions for your Heat Pump?

We can help you to unlock the benefits of Heat Pumps:

  • Heat Pumps can reduce your carbon emissions by up to 66%, compared to a gas boiler. For example, an Air-Source Heat Pump provides 850kg of CO2 per year, compared to a natural gas burning boiler, which would produce 2,500kg of CO2*
  • As renewables on the grid grow, Heat Pumps will become cleaner to run and their carbon impact will reduce
  • If Solar PV is used to power the Heat Pump completely, then the Heat Pump can be considered carbon neutral
  • Heat Pumps have an average lifespan of 20-25 years, compared to 10-15 years for a gas boiler

A Heat Pump partnership with Centrica Business Solutions will also mean you benefit from:

  • Integration with other onsite energy generation technologies, like Solar and CHP
  • Expert after-care via maintenance plans that encompass remote, proactive and reactive servicing
  • No upfront capital needed with our range of flexible financing options
  • Reduce investment risk with our 35+ years of experience in onsite energy solution design and deployment
  • Natural refrigerants used to reduce the climate impact while safeguarding Heat Pump performance
  • Superior project delivery to minimise planning risks, manage noise impact, support with grid consent, and ensure seamless integration into your existing energy infrastructure
  • Technology agnostic approach means we select the right Heat Pump manufacturer for each specific project to create a bespoke solution

Our range of Heat Pumps

We can deliver five different types of Heat Pumps, to suit a range of different business objectives, budgets and site requirements. We specialise in 500kW+ Heat Pump installations, or 250kW+ when the Heat Pump is bundled with other onsite energy generation assets, like Commercial Solar or Combined Heat and Power (CHP).

Air Source Heat Pump
Air Source Heat Pumps

One of the simplest and most straightforward types of Heat Pumps. Their efficiency is highly dependent on ambient conditions, but it’s possible to increase efficiency by utilising waste heat. They’re often the most cost-effective type of Heat Pump, but deliver more limited carbon savings.

Ground Source Heat Pump
Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps have much stronger seasonal performance than Air Source Heat Pumps. They can also deliver larger carbon reductions. However, since boreholes need to be drilled, their installation can be more disruptive and complex, and the installation can be more expensive.

Water Source Heat Pump
Water Source Heat Pumps

You can expect to get larger carbon reductions with a Water Source Heat Pump compared to Ground or Air Source. They can also be more cost effective and require less land than a Ground Source Heat Pump. However, there’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, so their installation may be more complex and time-consuming.

Waste Heat Source Heat Pump
Waste Heat Source Heat Pumps

These can achieve very high levels of efficiency, and can deliver the highest carbon reductions of any heat source. It’s also possible to achieve temperatures in excess of 100°C. However, performance is highly dependent on the volume and temperate of waste heat that’s available, so can be intermittent.

Cascade Source Heat Pump
Cascade Heat Pumps

Combining 2+ Heat Pump units, Cascade Heat Pumps are scalable and relatively straightforward to install. They can deliver temperatures of up to > 120°C for industrial processes. However their performance is very dependent on ambient conditions, and they can be more expensive and complex to retrofit on existing sites.

Question mark
What's the best option?

The difference between the temperature of your heat source vs. the temperature of the heat you want to produce is the key factor in determining a Heat Pump’s performance, associated carbon emissions, and installation costs. Our expert team will guide you through the best option for your organisation, based on your site limitations and business objectives.

Financing options for Heat Pump installations

If your organisation does not have available capex to fund your new Heat Pump installation, we offer in-house financing to fund your project. Our Heat-as-a-Service option finances Heat Pumps over a 7-15 year contract.

We offer two options:

  • Pay a fixed-fee each month (with indexation)
  • Pay a fixed p/kWh for the heat generated by your installation

Benefits:

  • No set up costs or initial capital outlay, subject to agreement
  • Secure your energy supply at an agreed price for 7-15 years
  • Integrate maintenance services into the contract
  • Funded directly by Centrica, and backed by our long history in the energy sector

Maintenance solutions for your Heat Pump

Our team of highly skilled Heat Pump engineers can ensure your Heat Pump continually operates at it’s best. We offer a range of different Operations and Maintenance (O&M) service plans, depending on your business needs.

Our service plans include:

  • An ongoing, regular schedule of preventative maintenance, to help reduce the risk of faults and outages
  • Rapid reactive maintenance services, to ensure a speedy resolution is found should a fault occur
  • Remote monitoring services, to continually monitor your Heat Pump’s performance using our remote control and diagnostic systems

How Heat Pumps work
Heat Pumps work by extracting heat from another source (like the air, water, ground, or waste) and converting it into usable heat that can be used on your site. In summer, the system can be reversed to provide cooling.
