Centrica Business Solutions completes work on 1 MW solar array in Wolverhampton

Centrica Business Solutions has completed work and energised a 1 MW solar array at aerospace and defence manufacturer, Moog Inc.

The solar system will accelerate the decarbonisation of its aerospace manufacturing site in Wolverhampton and help the business accelerate its journey toward zero.

The project has seen Centrica lease roof space from Moog Inc. to install a 2,200 solar panel array capable of generating circa 1 MW of electricity. The energy company financed the project and agreed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the manufacturer for the renewable electricity generated on site.

The panels will provide the site with 800 MWh of reliable green energy for the next 25 years – around 10 per cent of the site’s existing electricity requirements.

The deal gives Moog Inc. price certainty and access to renewable electricity without any upfront costs. In addition, the agreement will reduce the business’ operational CO2 emissions on site by 175 tonnes per year.

Working with Centrica has enabled us to implement a solution that makes sense from both an environmental and financial perspective. This solar project is the first retrofit of its kind for us, and we’re looking forward to implementing similar initiatives around the world to further our carbon reduction ambitions.
Hamish Ferguson Director of Sustainability and ESG at Moog Inc.

Dr Jean-Yves Cherruault, Head of Business Development at Centrica Business Solutions, said: “Our project with Moog Inc. is one of our biggest roof-top solar arrays to date, and we’re excited to continue working with businesses across Britain to deliver large-scale renewable energy schemes that will help meet their sustainability goals - while creating a greener, more decentralised and flexible grid.”

Hamish Ferguson, Vice-President, Director of Sustainability and ESG at Moog Inc., said: “Working with Centrica has enabled us to implement a solution that makes sense from both an environmental and financial perspective.

This solar project is the first retrofit of its kind for us, and we’re looking forward to implementing similar initiatives around the world to further our carbon reduction ambitions.”
