Salem State University, along with the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) in Massachusetts, selected Centrica Business Solutions to replace interior and exterior lighting across the entire University campus.
Salem State University was facing several challenges related to its campus lighting including inconsistent technology that made operation, maintenance, repair, and replacement difficult to manage. The University wanted to standardize with more energy-efficient LED fixtures that would improve lighting conditions and enhance on-campus safety while also reducing utility costs. Because every fixture was included in the upgrade, the replacement schedule needed to be carefully planned to not impact the learning environment and to minimize disruption for faculty and staff.
Salem State University selected Centrica Business Solutions to implement the turn-key upgrade. Centrica Business Solutions carried out the scope of work provided by DCAMM, that included the replacement of over 7,000 interior and exterior lighting fixtures across 115 acres of campus. Centrica Business Solutions recognized the importance of maintaining constant coordination throughout the project. The team identified key stakeholders in each affected area to facilitate the process and minimize impact to building occupants. This proactive approach ensured that the project could progress smoothly, meeting the expectations of all parties involved.
With the project successfully implemented, Salem State University realized several immediate and long-term benefits. The new LED lighting fixtures improved night-time visibility and safety on campus. With improved lighting, the learning environment is more vibrant and inviting for students, faculty, and staff. The University is now poised to realize energy and operational savings from the LED upgrades. The project has reduced annual kWh consumption and has created additional annual maintenance savings. Salem State University, initially concerned about various aspects of its lighting infrastructure, including inconsistent technology, now boasts uniform and efficient LED lighting throughout campus.
