Operating as both a mosque and a community center, Masjid Al-Wali hosts a wide variety of events and activities that require a lot of electricity. As a member of Masjid Al-Wali, Helmi Saud recommended that the community install solar power to lower operating costs and reduce environmental impact.
Mr. Saud had worked with Centrica Business Solutions on another solar project and was pleased with the overall experience. The team was trustworthy, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to ensure he and the rest of the community were satisfied with the solar design and installation.
The initial motivation for going solar was more about going green than saving money on electricity. However, with all of the daily activities taking place in the building, Masjid Al-Wali no longer worries about energy bills. The solar system generates 100% of the community’s energy needs.
Masjid Al-Wali purchased the system through the PSE&G Loan Program. Payments are funded by utilizing both the electricity savings and the Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) that the system generates. The electricity generated has a 25-year average cost of $0.040/kWh versus $0.155/kWh – a 126% reduction in electricity costs. The total solar investment is projected to save the community $202,000 over 25 years, which can be used to fund future events and activities.

We wanted to bring awareness to the members of our mosque – both of the benefits of solar energy, and of working with Centrica Business Solutions.” Helmi Saud, solar advocate and member of Masjid Al-Wali
